2nd Annual Swim-A-Thon!

Last year was the first year NEON participated in a USA Swimming sponsored Swim-A-Thon.  Our swimmers did an amazing job of raising just over $1500.00 for our team! This enabled us to buy new zoomers for training. We had more than half of our swimmers swim 200 laps, the maximum allowed.  Two 8 & unders swam over 80 laps!  It was a great way for our team to spend a Saturday morning and got both swimmers and parents involved in a team activity.

This year, our Swim-A-Thon is scheduled for June 22, 2013 at Fairview Rec and we have set a goal to double the amount we raised from last year...$3000.00.  It’s a huge goal but we know our swimmers can do it.  It is going to take every NEON swimmer participating in not only swimming the laps but asking family, friends, teachers, and neighbors to support them in their commitment to not only their team but also USA Swimming.

Here is how it works...

Each swimmer will be given a pledge envelope.  Once you have the envelope, set your goal and decide how you want to collect the donations.  Swimmers can either ask for a flat amount and collect before they swim or they can get sponsored per lap they swim.  That money will be collected after they have participated in the Swim-A-Thon.  There will be posters at the pool with each swimmer’s name on it.  For each $5.00 you raise, you will be able to enter your name in a drawing for 3 prizes NEON will be giving away.  Last year, the prizes were a USA swimming T-shirt, NEON apparel, and a Speedo warm up jacket with NEON Swimming and the swimmer’s name.  In addition to the prizes, coaches will be setting goals and also offering incentives within each group.

The day of the Swim-A-Thon swimmers will be given 2 hours to complete the laps.  There is a maximum of 200 laps allowed per swimmer.  Envelopes can be turned in that day if the donations were collected before or returned to any coach up to a week after the Swim-A-Thon.

This can be a great way to raise money for our team and and even better way for our entire team and their families to have fun working together.

Joy Presley will have envelopes available everyday after practice.  If you have any questions, would like to help with the Swim-A-Thon, or know you will be available to be a counter the morning of the Swim-A-Thon, please let her know either at practice or via email (joypresley@oh.rr.com).

Our swimmers work so hard to reach the goals they set every season.  Let’s support the entire team in reaching this goal.  Please encourage your swimmer to participate,  it would be great to have every swimmer from Bronze to Platinum show up Saturday June 22!

Thanks for supporting NEON Swimming!

*If anyone works for a company that matches fund raising donations, let Joy know. USA Swimming provides letters that she can get if needed.
