MENTAL TOUGHNESS
What is mental toughness? It’s being in control of your emotions, being poised when challenged and under pressure. It’s the ability to maintain focus and to be resilient through intimidation and being able to bounce back from adversity. Mental toughness is being self-assured and learning how to deal with the fear of failure.
What can a parent do? Don’t demand or expect certain performance levels, condemn failure or equate love with performance. Stay away from undue or harsh criticism. DO encourage and support. Reward effort, not outcome. Realize that the consequences of failure are temporary. Learn and help your athletes learn to enjoy the sport and have fun regardless of outcome.
Discourage statements (and never use them yourself) like: “What if I don’t do well?”, “I can’t blow it now.”, or “I don’t do well under pressure.” Encourage statements (and use them yourself) like: “I’m going to do the best I can.”, “I don’t have to feel pressure. I’ll just do my job.”, and “I’m giving 100 percent and trusting my training.”

The Mile/500 Meet will be held on November 10th at Solon High School in Solon, OH. In order to swim the mile (1650) a swimmer must have a legal 500 Free time. There are no time requirements to swim the 500 Free. The morning session will be for 13 & Over swimmers while the afternoon session is for 12 & Under swimmers. seeded. Swimmers must personally check in for their events in the lobby area
adjacent to the natatorium. Check in will close 35 minutes before the start of the session. The Lake Erie Scratch Rule
will be in effect.

Freestyle Frenzy and IMX Meet will be held on October 27th at Solon
High School. There are no time standard requirements for these meets. The
morning session will be for the Freestyle Frenzy meet and the afternoon session
will be for the IMX Meet. Events available for Freestyle Frenzy are: 25 Fr (for 10 & Under only), 50 Fr, 100 Fr, 200 Fr, 500 Fr, and 1000 Fr. Events for the IMX Meet are: 200 Bk, 200 Fly, 200 Br, and 400 IM.
The Due date for
entries is Sunday September 29th

The Peg Neal Pentathlon will take place on October 19th at Lakewood High School. In order to participate in this meet, a swimmer must have a legal time in each of the five events (fly, back, breast, free, and the IM). This meet is open to swimmers from any group, provided they have a legal time in each event. The morning session is for 10 & Under and 13-14 swimmers, and the afternoon session is for 11-12 and 15 & Over swimmers. Entries are due on Friday September 20th by midnight. ENTRY FEES: There is a single-fee (5 events) meet
charge of $25.00 per swimmer plus a $2.00 per swimmer LESI surcharge.
ENTRY
LIMITATIONS: This meet is
for swimmers who can and will swim in all five (5) events for their age group
for that day. Swimmers must have a legal time in
all 5 events in order to compete in this meet. If your swimmer is not legal in
any single stroke please do not enter them in this meet. Every swimmer will be
entered in all five (5) events for their age group that day.
DECK ENTRIES: Deck entries will only be accepted on a
space available basis, and will be seeded at No Time. Deck entries, if space
available: $35.00. Deck entry swimmers new to meet will be charged $2.00 LESI
surcharge and must provide proof of USA Swimming registration. Deck entries
will close 35 minutes before the start of each session.
QUALIFYING
TIMES: Swimmers must have

SEEDING &
CHECK IN: All events will
bedeck seeded. Swimmers must check in for all their events no later
than 30 minutes prior to the start of the session. Check-in sheets will be
posted on the windows of the coaches’ office. There will be no clerk of course.
Heat and lane assignments will be posted around the pool deck and in the
spectator area. Swimmers are responsible for reporting to their starting block
for each event.
AWARDS: Ribbons will be given for places 1 through
8 in each event. Plaques will be awarded to the top three swimmers (boys and
girls) in each age group for each pentathlon track. Team Awards will be given
for teams finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall.
Awards will be given to the coaches at the conclusion of the meet.
ADMISSION
COST: $3.00 per person.Psych sheets: $3.00 each.
NOTE:
Only athletes entered in the meet, working coaches, officials, and meet

The CCS Age Group and Open Meet will take place on October 12th -13th and is a great meet for swimmers in any group (Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum). There are no time standards for this meet, it is open to all swimmers. The morning session is for 12 & Under swimmers, with 13 & Older swimmers in the afternoon session. Time standards can be found here. Make sure you look at the second page that says "Short Course Yards."
As the meet entry deadlines approach, a new blog post will be created with the entry due date and all meet information for each meet. Entry due dates will also be posted on our website, on the Meet Info tab. To enter a meet you must send an e-mail to neonswimming@gmail.com. Put the meet name (ex: Sprint Spectacular) in the subject line and in the body of the e-mail put which day(s) of the meet you would like to attend (Saturday only, both days, et cetera).
Please pencil in meets you can attend on the calendar! It is very important that the swimmers get to participate in the meets in order to see the progress from all their hard work - this helps to keep them motivated in practices. Performance in meets also helps coaches to evaluate which skills the swimmers have mastered, and which skills still need more attention. Also, participation in swim meets is necessary for advancement into each group (Silver, Gold, and Platinum). There are time standard requirements for this meet - swimmers must have a 'B' time or better for a 50 meter race, a 'BB' time for a 100, and an 'A' time for a 200 (see chart provided below). The Saturday and Sunday morning session will be for 13 & Over swimmers while the afternoon session is for 12 & Under swimmers. The Friday evening session is for all ages.

the south entrance of the Aquatic Center, denoted by signage. Please do not park in front of the building
unless you have a handicapped designation sticker for that reserved space;
handicap parking is located next to the swimmer drop-off entrance.
CAMERA ZONES: Meet
Management shall designate and inform the public of “Camera Zones” at each swim
meet where both still and video photography of a race or competitor may be
taken. Acceptable Camera Zones may include, but are not limited to the side
courses of a pool, team gathering areas, concession areas, the turn-end of the
competition course when not in use as a start-end, etc. Meet Management shall
also designate “No Camera Zones.” Under NO circumstances will Camera Zones
include locker rooms, rest rooms, any dressing areas, or the area immediately
behind the starting blocks at either end of the racing course(s) while they are
in use for race starts during competition and warm-up. Those failing to abide
by this rule may be removed from the venue.
Furthermore, the Meet Referee and the Meet Directors may limit, at their
discretion, still or video photography within the camera zone, if in the
opinion of the Meet Referee and/or the Meet Directors the photography is
disruptive to the meet or is otherwise not in the best interest of the athletes
in consideration of the safe sport objectives.
Even in the designated Camera Zones, spectators are reminded that
there is no flash photography permitted at the start of the race, from the time
that the athletes are given the instruction to step up on the blocks until the
race has been started.
Use
of audio or visual recording, including a cell phone
camera, is not allowed in changing areas, restrooms or locker rooms, and
is limited to only those areas marked as designated camera zones.
NOTE:
Only athletes entered in the meet, working coaches, officials, and meet
workers are allowed on deck. Other
non-participants are expected to remain in the spectator area.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: All clubs are required to provide workers for the district
championships. Each club’s cooperation
in this regard is critical in making this meet a success. Please fulfill your obligation by assigning
parents or other responsible adults (not age group swimmers) from your club to
work at this meet.
Should a club fail to fulfill its work responsibilities,
particularly in timing; the meet will be unnecessarily delayed. A fine will be assessed to any club not
completing their assignments at this meet.
THE FINE IS AS FOLLOWS: $20.00 FOR EACH POST NOT FILLED BY THE CLUB
ASSIGNED. For example, if a club is
assigned two lanes of timers for a session and only one worker appears, that
club will be fined $60.00 (3 absent timers).
